Jamie Carson, CPA, CA

I have a lovely wife, Meghan (also a CPA, CA), and we have two wonderful children, a boy and a girl. We live in my hometown of Kingston, ON, and we love it here.

I received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s, and started my career with a “Big 4” accounting firm in downtown Toronto, where I worked for a few years and gained exposure to many different industries, working almost exclusively on audits of large companies, in the “Retail, Distribution & Manufacturing” group.

We moved back to Kingston in 2006, the same year I received my Chartered Accountant designation, where I gained exposure to the small business accounting and tax world, first with a prominent local firm, and also as a Financial Controller for a company in the construction industry. The construction industry role was particularly valuable for me, as I learned what it was like on the “other side of the desk” from an accounting/tax service provider and this has enabled me to provide practical advice that’s grounded in reality.

About my practice

I’ve had my own accounting and tax practice since 2009. I serve a diverse group of clients involved in industries such as Construction/Trades, Healthcare and other Professionals, Retail, Tech, Consulting and NPOs, among others.

I enjoy talking shop and exchanging stories, challenges and best practices with other business owners. Unlike many accounting firms who delegate many client responsibilities to employees, I prefer to be the primary point of contact for my clients so I am always aware of their strengths and challenges. This helps me to be able to identify opportunities for improving their business. Whether you are an existing client or not, I would love to hear from you!
